Chumby connected devices resurface with app subscription in tow - SlashGear
I always wanted a chumby, I even entered several contests to win one, but I could never justify the cost. Now they are back with a subscriptions model.
You shell out $3 a month, and you get access to all the Chumby apps you could want on your little wifi connected bean bag.
There is no note on the price of the hardware now, but it ought to be super cheap if they want us to start paying a subscription. I’m thinking $49 might be about right. Or maybe even free with a years subscription paid up front.

Hyundai’s latest car automatically slows down for speed cameras | The Verge
So I am already uncomfortable with these partially autonomous cars that will seize control from the driver when they detect a crash impending, but I accept it in the name of safety. But this… boggles my mind.
The Hyundai Genesis, using standard GPS tech can detect the location of speed cameras and automatically slow you down to the speed limit while in range of the cameras.
Now this isn’t really magic since speed cameras and red light cameras are reported by other drivers and show up on generally available mapping software. But why not just warn you of it… why take over?
I am totally OK with the fully autonomous car, its these partially autonomous ones where you never quite know if you are in control or not that worry me.

Philips Clear LED Preview - CNET

I love LED light bulbs. Real power savings, real longevity, such a simple upgrade to invest in your home, with a real pay off. But one of my hangups is that so many of the bulbs are directional.

For example, I have a small chandelier that hangs over my kitchen table. With regular incandesent bulbs it lights the table but also the cieling above it and the room around it. I replaced the 5 40 watt bulbs (200w) with LED’s (25w) and they works wonderfully, nice natural light, but they only light the table. the ceiling and the room is noticeably dark.

Well Phillips is out with a clear bulb designed to be more like the traditional clear incandescent that lets you see the internals and provides a sparkle to your light. But I think the best part of this bulb is that its a true omni-directional LED bulb.

As soon as these hit my local Lowes I will be making the switch.
