Acer Chromebook 13 with NVIDIA Tegra K1 Processor and 1080p Launches

I know I posted a review of this last week, but damn if this isn’t the new hotness for anything less than a macbook.

Google Patents a Less Obvious Tech-on-the-Inside Version of Glass

Hiding the tech has always been a good idea, but never better when it comes to Google Glass, or is it? Google has a patent out there for moving the technology portion of the head-ware to the inside of the frame. making it a bit more out of view. Meaning it will be harder to tell who is wearing glass and who isn’t.

‘Ignore No More’ Android app forces kids to return parents’ calls | BGR

I can’t decide if this is brilliant or frightening…. but as a parent of an 11 year old girl on the cusp of such things…. I lean towards brilliant.

Android only, for now… it forces a person (read child) to return a call or text or else the phone will lock, allowing only emergency calls and/or the designated contacts.

BBC News - Physicists make ‘tractor beam’ in water

Just in time for Star Wars, Tractor beams are real…. if you are wet, anyway. Actually this is really cool, especially when you think about containing oil spills, red algae blooms, or maybe giant floating garbage islands. But of course this will be adopted by the government for defense purposes…

13 Cheaper Alternatives To Life’s Expensive Necessities

This is a pretty nice little list of alternatives. I was attracted to it just for the Dyson Alternative. I have a 10+ year old Dyson that I love but the plastic bits on it are all starting to fail, and my bungee cord and bubblegum solutions aren’t going to last forever. It’s nice to see that there is a cheaper alternative that is actually in the same ball park.

Cheap Solid-State Batteries That Last Twice as Long as Li-On Are Coming

New battery tech seems to be promised every few months, and the tech punditry goes wild every time, why? Because batteries are the weakest link in our wonder new age of conectivity. We make things gadgets smaller, lighter, and thinner all the time, but its the battery that is really holding us back now.

But this isn’t new battery tech its old. Solid State batteries have been around forever, and they provide more power in a smaller, safer, and more stable form factor. But they have traditionally been very difficult (read expensive) to make.

But Applied Materials thinks it can change that. It belives it can make an inexpensive solid state battery, and they are alluding that they already have customers in the wearables market.

Wearables are great, I cureently use two devices already, but honestly, what I want is an iPhone that I can use heavily all day without an external battery case.
