Incantor, a Fantasy MMO played in the real world

Ok so this is about the coolest thing I have seen in a while.

The premise is this, Magic is being fed back into earth from other realms. And now the lucky few can take advantage of it, to explore, experiment, quest, and of course battle.

So you buy a wand for the game, and there will be several kinds of wands all having different powers. This wand links to your Android or iOS phone via blue tooth and allows you to actually cast spells, in the real world.

Your smart phone acts as your heads up display keeping track of your health, damage, virtual items and so on, as well as a view finder into the magical world.

So yeah this game is played for real, in the real world, but connected online through your smart phone. You even have to get the gestures right with your wand in order to properly cast your chosen spell.

It’s alternate reality, fantasy, Live action, massivly multiplayer, game that happens 24/7/365 in real time, in real life.

Yeah this is cool.

Now it’s a kick starter project which means it’s not guaranteed to happen. In fact these guys need to raise $100,000 by June 8th to get this project off the ground, and as of this article they have less than $3000 pledged.

Now if you arn’t familiare with kick starter, this is how it works. You hit the link below, read up on the project, if you want to support it you pick an amount you want to pledge (based on the reward you will get) enter your credit card info and go.

Now if the project doesn’t meet it’s pledge goal; you aren’t changed a thing, no risk to you.

But if it does, you are changed for what you agreed to and the project moves ahead and you get the rewards you signed up for as well as the knowledge that you helped a great project get off the ground.

Personally I recommend the $100 pledge, because that gets you early access to the site, the lore, and a wand before they go on sale to the general public.

Neat, a portable fuel cell. You get to charge up your Cell phone (or any device that charges via USB) 10 to 12 times before it runs out, and the replacement cartridges are only a few bucks.

No word on what the unit itself will cost, but even if it’s pricey this could be a worth while investment for those outdoorsy types.

Very handy for travelers, campers, or people just too often away from standard power.

It resists high or low temperatures, does not swell or shrink and the movement does not slacken or damage the fabric. The body changes its shape according to exterior conditions and speeds, and it also allows the driver to change its shape at will. The fabric is stretched over a moveable frame…”

My gut say “ahhh it’s un safe” but my brain knows that the metal skin of a car is designed to peel away anyway, it’s the frame that absorbs crash damage, so honestly this is probably more safe, and less likely to get as badly damaged in a crash.

The question is, can BMW out market peoples guts?

Facebook to buy Instagram

Darling photo app for Apple iOS devices and recent release to the Google android market as well has just been scouped up by Social giant Facebook for one billion in cash and stock.

I am floored by this deal and most definatly worried for my beloved Instagram. Past purchases by Team Zuckerberg have been rolled into Facebook’s code never to be seen or heard from again. Instagram already will let you post tto Facebook but it also lets you selectivly post elsewhere…

Will a facebook owned Instagram force you to post to facebook?

Will a facebook owned Instagram force you to only post to facebook, denying use of Instagram posts by it’s competitors?

Time will tell, but I am suddenly not optimistic.

New iPad uses Retina graphics assets for upscaling

This is a nice unexpected side effect of upgrading your ipad. If you use any iPhone apps on your iPad you are no doubt awair of the nifty little 2x button that makes the app larger but at the same time sacrifices a bit of graphics crispness and clarity.

Well as long as that iPhone app is optimized for an iPhone retina display (iPhone 4 or 4S) the new iPad can take advantage of these graphics.

Now most popular apps have an iPad optimized version already but there are a few gems out there that you may want to run on your iPad, like the amazing Hero Academy game for instance, that suddenly look amazing.

It’s not a deal maker or breaker but sort of an apple upgrade Easter Egg.
