ok go back and re-read that title a few times, I know I had to before it sunk in.
Yeah that’s right not an Android tablet, a Google Chrome OS Tablet.
I have been watching the rumors and product announcements for the comming onslaught of Google Android tablets being released this fall, that I nearly forgot that Google still had their other OS, the Chrome OS in development too.
So not only is Google Chrome OS, still alive, and kicking. It’s actually got some hardware and a mobile carrier, and… a release date? Whoa, is that Black Friday, why yes… yes it is.
HTC is building the device, so you know it will be a solid bit of kit, but what do we know about the Chrome OS? Not a whole lot except it’s built around the Chrome browser and clouds based services.
The download squad article linked in the title has a render of what it “might” look like, but that’s little help. They suspect it will be build on the Tegra 2 platform with a 1280x720 display (720p), 2GB of Ram, and a 32gb ssd (flash disk). We can also expect WiFi, Blue Tooth, 3G (CDMA), GPS, webcam and perhaps even an SD/USB slot.
This all sounds ideal, especially to someone looking hard at iPad alternatives, but Chrome OS unlike Android is completely unproven in the field. This had better be one cheap device (on contract or off) to make people want to invest in some new technology at christmas time, in this economy.
I for one am very interested, but…. skeptical.
