This is very interesting.  Normally $50 a year gets you an Xbox Live Gold membership, to play games online, get access to extra content like last.fm or netflix, etc…

There is some debate out there as to weather this is a good deal since nintendo and Sony offer similar connectivity for free, although not as seamlessly implemented IMO.

If you accept that $50 is a reasonable price to pay for the Xbox Live Gold service, then you would have to admit that the $99 family plan is a heck of a deal.

The Family Plan lets you get up to four accounts for $99, each with your own avatar, game tracking, etc.  It also enables the new family center where you can customize account settings on an account by account basis.

For me, although I sure wouldn’t mind seeing the $50 price drop to $25 or free, I think there is a value to the service, and the family plan is a nice deal, and something that should have been available all along.

With my family of three I’m not sure we need to make the jump to a family plan just yet, but…  I can see the need for this in a few years for sure.

As with most thing pertaining to the Xbox 360, Microsoft, you’re doing it right!
