Internationally beloved technology pundit, Andy Ihnatko has finally provided us with his promised side by side comparison, of this seasons hot stocking stuffers.

The pocket HD Camcorder.

The two contenders are the Flip Mino HD, and the Kodak Zi6.

Flip Mino HD vs. Kodak Zi6 from Andy Ihnatko on Vimeo.

Andy, it should be noted* has been a fan of the Flip since it’s inception, and this review does a pretty good job of reflecting that.  However He does give the nod to Kodak, in terms of superior sound quality and it’s ability to “run forever” due to taking regular batteries and SD cards.   (The Mino has sealed batterys and sealed 4gb of storage)

Myself, I am still leaning towards the Kodak.   I like the ability to shoot in macro, as well as the expandability.

I have asked some of my Kodak based twitter friends to see if they can get me a review copy of a Zi6, but…  I have a sneaking suspicion I will need to buy it.

* Disclosure:  It should also be noted that I am really pulling for my hometown Kodak to have some great success breaking into this market, so I am a bit biased the other way ;-)

Update:   After having watched the entire video Andy put on Vimeo I have to agree, the Zi6 does seem a bit punchier, but what is unclear is weather those settings can be adjusted on the camera and/or what the differences are between cameras.   I have seen plenty of other Zi6 footage around that doesn’t look as punchy as Andy’s footage.   It almost make me wonder what the range of differences could be from camera to camera.   Would you get such a range of differences if you used a different Mino HD and Zi6?
