Under US law, copyright is granted on publication to “original works of authorship” finalized in “fixed forms of expression” but this does not extend to names, titles, or short phrases (PDF).

You cannot copyright a Tweet

Good to know, not that I ever thought of applying copyright to my tweets, but it’s nice to know my “retweets” aren’t going to get me sued either.

It’s an odd world we live in when this stuff needs to be explained.
