The iPhone 5 is the greatest phone in the world. It has top-notch hardware with a zippy new A6 processor and amazing four-inch display. Its new operating system, iOS 6, is slicker than slugs on ice. And its ultra-slim body, an all-glass and aluminum enclosure, is a triumph of industrial design. There is nothing not to like about the phone. It’s aces. Just aces.
And yet it is also so, so cruelly boring.

The iPhone 5 is Boring and Amazing | Gadget Lab | Wired.com
Man there are a lot of critics out there. Hating Apple is becoming a full time job, especially if you happen to carry an Android device…. or worse a Samsung one and you somehow felt personally affronted by their recently lost lawsuit.
The linked article from wired does a nice summary of both why the phone is clearly the best manufactured phone running the best operatating system ever, and why it’s yawn worthy at the same time.
For me, personally I am excited. It’s not a revolutionary change but every little change adds up. My favorite bits include:
- The larger screen without adding any more width.
- The Sapphire lens cap to keep the camera lens free of scratches.
- iOS 6 (iPhone 5 not required)
- 720p front facing camera
- The jewel cut edges. (Cause thats just cool)
Haters gunna hate, but I agree with the article and I think all the small updates add up to one awesome phone.
