The battle of which dying industry is going to push the other one out of business first, has just gotten a bit more intense.
FOX is threatening to pull all of it’s channels off of Time Warner Cable unless Time Warner Cable coughs up $1 per subscriber. I assume that’s $1 per month but the Crunch Gear article (linked in title) doesn’t say. If they don’t get it by 2009 year end, they will pull all FOX stations from all Time Warner Cable systems.
This means no FOX stations in New York, Dallas, Los Angles, and of course my home town, Rochester, NY.
Time Warner and FOX have been to this dance before. I remember a few years ago FOX wanted more money to provide Time Warner with the HD signal they are broadcasting locally anyway.
Some how magically it worked it self out and we never heard how or who won.
I suspect Time Warner is using this as an opportunity to look good to it’s increasingly skeptical customer base and will hold out claiming they are fighting for “you” to keep your cable rates down… yeah right.
How about this TW, you let me pay for just the channels I want and I’ll gladly shell out the extra $1 for FOX channels.
I just have a hard time feeling for either company here…
Here I’ll say something that will scare them both.
“I want my Google TV!”
