I’ve been aware of LaLa as a music service for a while now, but I have never really played with it. Late last week the rumor broke that Apple had bought them. Turns out it was true, but why would Apple buy a music service?

Turns out LaLa has something a bit more unique that fits very well into the iTunes system. A streaming service that lets you buy rights to stream a song for only $0.10 a track.

yes, you don’t download a copy of the song, but just one thin dime lets you stream that song wherever you are (as long as you have internet) as many times as you want, forever.

Why bother with storing a library of music locally when, as long as you are connected) you have access to you library from any device, anywhere in the world. A very cool thought, the only catch now is you can bet your sweet patooki, that Apple is only going to let this work with iPods and iPhones at least for mobile devices.

Still though what a great concept, build your library in the cloud for just $0.10 a track and have access to it with your computer, your cell phone, your console, your net connected alarm clock, whatever… forever. never have to worry about DRM, or losing tracks with hard drive crashes, just connect and listen to your music, whenever you want.

It’s a very Apple idea, I just hope they don’t lock it down to AppleTV’s, iPods and iPhone, because I’d get on board with this with my droid in a heart beat.
