Ok this is my WTF Friday post because seriously, this is an insane article (link in the headline).

Let me just put this out there, again.   There will be no iPhone in Verizon’s network.

Apple would have to make a special version of the iPhone to run on Verizon’s existing CDMA network.  That phone would not work outside the USA.  Sure sure there are chipsets that can do both GSM and CDMA but they are larger and draw more power so even if Apple went that way they would have to re-engineer the whole device just for the US market.   It’s not going to happen, people.

Not until Verizon makes the switch to LTE that is.

The 4G version of GSM is LTE and Verizon’s European owners (Vodaphone) have committed to migrating the Verizon Network to LTE for the next major upgrade, but that’s not realistically expected until sometime in 2011 (or maybe even 2012).

I’m sure once the LTE rollout is well underway, Apple will release a LTE capable handset.   Then and only then could you even start to expect an Apple/Verizon deal.

Besides, even if Apple was willing to build a version of the iPhone for Verizon, why would an Google Android deal be of any concern?  AT&T offers numerous smart phones from companies that are for more threatening than Android is at this point.   AT&T has even committed to supporting Android and we will probably see a Google handset there within a year.

I’d love just say that this computerworld article is insane speculation, but it’s far from the only one.   Verizon iPhone rumors pop-up constantly, and none of them make any sort of sense.

Do you remember when journalism was based on facts…   yeah those were the days.   Now apparently you can write an opinion piece based on fantasies and pass it off as news.

Seriously…  There will be No iPhone on Verizon until LTE hits…  Seriously.
