Adobe flash 10.1 is coming, shout it from the mountain tops folks, because with it brings flash that is gpu accelerated and usable on smart phones, netbooks, and many other low powered devices. except… the iPhone.

If you have a Windows Mobile or Palm Web OS device you should see it hit later this year. Android and Blackberry users will have it early next year. So now you have a reason to gloat over the all mighty iPhone, or do you?

GPU Accelerated Flash is great for regular computers not just handsets and portables because flash currently runs all in the CPU, sucking down processing power and battery life. But do you really want flash on your cell phone?

Sure it makes view video from any site easier, and sure air bassed applications could be easily ported to your handset. But what about all the ugly flash based advertising? do you really need that juck slowing down your already slow internet service on your phone? And even if it is GPU based, it’s still going to suck power away from your device just to have the less annoying flash ads running on the sides of web pages.

It all depends on how they implement it but based on how often I encounter flash in my regular browsing, I’m pretty happy not having it on my phone.

What about you? Are you chomping at the bit to have flash based games and sites on your hand held?
