Ok, I know I’ve said this before, but seriously… How stupid is the record industry?

ASCAP (pronounced ASS-CAP) is now asking online music stores for performance fees for the 30 sec preview clips you can listen to in iTunes and other digital retailers.

Excuse me? that 30 second clip that rarely even lets me know what the “meat” of a song sounds like, but can be used to check and make sure that it is actually the track I want to buy. That you need to make money on too?

The right thing to do would be to allow a store to stream 1/2 or more of the track if you really want to sell people on new music. I mean seriously, how are people supposed to buy your product if we can’t hear it first?!?!

Oh that’s right, you’d rather we pirate it so you can then sue us for all of our net worth. That’s the new business model for the recording industry.

This industry and their antiquated business models can not die soon enough.

Suck it! ASSSSCAP!
