Apple TV, Steve Job’s hobby project, as he once put it. The Apple interface for your TV and Entertainment center just scored a big Price cut.
The 160GB Apple TV dropped to $229, the 40GB version that was formally $229 has been discontinued (start looking for deals and closeouts).
The Apple TV is the grand daddy of the streaming video players for your TV. Since it’s come out the Roku, has come out, the Xbox has beefed up it’s offerings significantly, and we are starting to see streaming built into TiVo units and TV’s themselves. Hopefully this means we might see an update to the aging Apple box soon, more capacity, horsepower would certainly be nice.
But in the mean time $229 isn’t a bad deal to hook up your iTunes library to your TV and put the power of the iTunes store behind it.
Although $199 would be a better price. As Phil Schiller says about the iPod Touch, it’s the magic price point.
