The fall release of Apple’s next iteration of it’s OS X operating system, is going to be delivered Friday August 28th.
OS X 10.6 aka Snow Leopard is mostly behind the scenes upgrades, unlike 10.5 which had large GUI and usability enhancements. But speed and stability enhancements like what’s expected in 10.6 are what I look for in an OS. So I am very excited for this release.
The other nice thing about this release is the price cut. Up-graders from OS X 10.5 will be able to do so for a mere $29. A five computer family pack can be had for only $49, and you can get a box set that includes OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, iLife 09, and iWork 09 for only $169.
My main machine is a Two year old Mac Book Pro with a 2.16ghz Core Duo processor, It’s not a core 2 duo system so I won’t be able to take advantage of the new 64 bit OS stuff. But I am hoping to keep this machine around a tad longer so I plan to do a clean install of Snow Leopard onto a new SSD (flash) Hard Drive. Hopefully that will keep the system fast enough to make it to the next generation of MacBook Pros :)
I’ll keep you posted as to how it turns out.
