Finally!
Apple paved the way with the iPhone and mobile Safari. Now it’s just become a fact, webkit based browser rule the mobile web.
Finally RIM has seen the light too as they have just purchased Torch Mobile the makers of the Iris mobile browers that is, you guessed it, webkit based.
So now we will have Apple (iPhone), RIM (Blackberry), Palm (Pre), and Android phones (google) all using the same base open source browser.
This has to be good for web designers who are taking without even knowing are building the next version of the web. And guess what, Web2.0 was all about social activity, Web3.0 will be taking it all mobile.
Now the only question will be, how fast can RIM replace it’s awful Java browser with the Iris browser? If you want to keep me as a customer RIM it had better be sooner than later. ;-)
