At first blush this looks very cool. A web cam that can broadcast stunning 720p video at 30fps from your desktop. Pretty cool, right? Well lets think about this…

Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch!

Unless you are one of the lucky few with faster than a 500k upload you are probably not going to be able to stream this to anyone or at least stream this to anyone and do anything else at the same time.

And which video chat client or streaming service are you going to use with this? It will of course be compatible with Windows live Messenger, but I doubt anything else will be able to handle a real time 1280x720 video stream.

Oh and then there is the recomended specs for it.

_”Microsoft recommends a 3GHz dual core processor and 2GB of memory.” _

That’s some serious horsepower for a webcam.

Now the good stuff, if you like recording video from your computer for upload to YouTube, Vimeo and the like, then you could do worse than this $79 gem, and I’m sure it capable of providing some nice looking video for less than the 720p HD spec for all apps that can take it.

But I think this is a just a tad ahead of it’s time, ahh Microsoft, you are either way late or just a tad early to the party aren’t ya. ;-)
