The insanely popular social networking site Twitter is currently under attack.

The site has been experiencing a denial of service attack and been up and down since about 9AM EST today.

We have very little communication from the people at Twitter as they are undoubably trying to combat this attack and secure more bandwidth to do so.

But their status blog on tumblr seems to be up and running with some very minor updates.

Tech Crunch is reporting that the formally popular blogging site Live Journal was also down for an hour or so, no doubt a casualty of war since the sites are most likely hosted in the same data center.

In what might be unrelated news (or it might not) Tech Crunch founder Michael Arrington has no power at his home. Coincidence or coordinated effort by internet terrorists?

Fear not fellow Twitter addicts and internet conspiratists Technology Viewer is on the case. Watch this space for updates.

Update 12:10PM:

Twitter the website and the API service has been back up for about 20 minutes now and solid for that time. They have probably cleared the attack now, but we’ll keep monitoring.
