Eastman Kodak today announced the next in their ever increasing pocket digital video camcorder line. Competing in the same space as the Cisco owned Flip Video series of cameras Kodak’s offerings have always intrigued me a bit more because of the use of standard SD cards for storage, making them able to take far more video before dumping it to your PC than the Flip Videos.

Their latest offering the Zi8, really pushes the envelope between a convenient pocket video cam and a “real” digital camcorder. The Zi8 features:

  • 1080p hd video capture at 30fps (or 720p at 60fps)
  • Built in electronic image stabilization (no more choppy videos)
  • Built in USB connector (no cables to lose)
  • 5mp 16x9 still photography
  • Easy upload to Facebook, You Tube, and more.
  • Built in Face Tracking (your subjects stay in focus no matter where they move)
  • An external Mic Jack (so now your video’s can sound good too)
  • Improved color and clarity in low light

Available in September for under $200, this little pocket gem just made my want list. Hmm I wonder if any of the local Kodak people would give me a sneak peek at this?
