When my buddy Rob was in town last Monday I got a chance to play with his beloved Palm Pre. Coming from an iPod Touch and BlackBerry Storm point of view, I have to admit, It’s a pretty sweet device.

But for all it’s OS interface nicities, the one thing it sorely needs are applications. Oh sure it has a few that pretty much came with the phone launch. A twitter App, a Facebook app, etc. All the absolute necessities of a decent smart phone these days. But when the RIM application store blows you away you know you are in trouble.

Finally, the Palm-Pre Mojo software development kit is available to the general public. Hopefully this means we will see applications hitting the palm pre App Catalog shortly.

I am looking at this device as a real option next year should the Pre actually come to Verizon as rumored. But unless you get a few thousand Apps built for this thing, it’s never going to contend with any other serious smart phone on the market, let alone the one million app strong Apple iPhone.
