This is what I have been waiting for. The Samsung Galaxy Tab available as a contract free WiFi only version at a “reasonable” price.
The price just happens to be the same as the base model Apple iPad, so lets look at what you get for the same $499.

- You get 3” less screen real estate.
- You get a pair of cameras, front and rear.
- You get 32GB of storage (iPad 16Gb)
- You get an OS not exactly designed for use on a tablet.
Now I am going to assume that the Android 2.2 OS will be upgradable to Android 2.5 (gingerbread) when it becomes available next year, so that’s not really a deal breaker.
So I guess it really depends on the screen size, is smaller better for you, or worse. I can see advantages both ways. I really don’t think the Camera’s will come into play without a solid app like Face time, but perhaps I am wrong. Maybe you want to shoot cell phone quality photos on a 7” tablet.
Of course if you are die hard anti-apple and their closed system, then there really isn’t a choice for you, you will want the Galaxy Tab.
Similarly if you want a reliable consumer friendly device that just works, you will want the Apple.
The scale might just be balanced in this case.
