DARPA, the great little arm of the military that has funded so many marvels or modern day tech.  You might remember this little thing called the internet, or also wonderful self driving robotic cars that they regularly set loose in both wild and urban environments in the name of fun and science.

Well they may have finally gone off the deep end.   It seems that DARPA has agreed to fund the EATR robot project.

DARPA EATR

EATR (Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot) is designed to perform long-range, long-endurance military mission without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling.

EATR gets it’s fuel from flesh.

It most likely prefers plant foliage but I doubt it would care if some other form of “biomass” was “accidentally” deposited in it’s burners.  EATR can digest anything and turn the biomass into energy it can use to keep working on it’s mission, for as long as it deems nessesary.

The engine for EATR is actually a steam powered system, so thankfully, stealth mission swill most likely be out of the question.   You should be able to see the chainsaw and claw wielding six wheels juggernaut coming your way in plenty of time to move your own biomass elsewhere.

Yes, you did read that right, chainsaw and claw wielding steam powered robot that is fueled by any sort of flesh.

Ummm DARPA, can we get back to work on Internet 2 now, or the robot car races?   We’ll just forget this was retro techno horror story was ever mentioned.
