The long time rumored Google operating System finally looks like is a reality.  or at least it will be in the second half of next year.

Ars Technica leaked and now Google has confirmed that they are working on a very lightweight linux based OS that will be based around the Chrome Browser as your main interface.

Designed to take advantage of Google’s (and others) cloud computing services this could be the browser based OS that I predicted would be coming last year.

Why not Android?  Well android being designed for a phone actually has a number or core components that are not necessary in a computer operating system, although Google does admit there will be some development overlap between the two systems.  In plain english you should be able to run some or most android applications on the Chrome OS.

With ever increasing broadband speeds why do we need to have all the computing power on our lap?  Low power cheap systems that connect quickly to the cloud and let the cloud servers do the heavy lifting.

It makes sense if we have a fast, free and uncapped Internet access from everywhere, which we seem to be getting farther and farther away from…  So I guess now we just need Google to release some of that dark fiber your hording to drive the price of Internet access and eliminate these stupid bandwidth caps.
