Medical technology gets cool and scarier at the same time.

Some boffins from Israel’s Technion University have come up with a medical robot with a 1mm diameter designed to perform tiny surgery in your veins or, deliver very targeted precise doses of medicine.

They were able to make it so small by eliminating any sort of propulsion system in the micro bot.  Instead it is guided and propelled through your body to it’s destination via an external magnetic field controlled by the doctors.

Racing through your blood stream, magnetically, at a top speed of 9mm/sec the bot can be set to work without worrying about running out of power.

But if the device does get away from docs even for a moment or has a need to just “park” for a while while the Doc’s go get coffee, it has little arms that spring out and grab hold of the vessel walls to hold it in place.

This “should” keep the device from being sucked back into your heart and being propelled up to your brain.

Yeah lets not think about that.
