12 Jun

There was a a whole lot of attention and commotion in February, when the first transition date was looming ever closer.  Then newly elected president Obama, against my advice pushed the transition date to June 12th.

Now, I hear almost nothing about it.

Which means either President Obama’s delay was the smartest thing ever done because now all of America is prepared, or….   Starting today or tomorrow depending on when the plug is pulled on your local analog transmitter we will have a customer service Armageddon as millions of TV’s get nothing but a message telling you to go get a converter box.

In case you have been under a rock for the last year.  The DTV Transition in the United States is a nation wide switchover for over the air broadcast of television from the current analog broadcast to the new higher quality and lower frequency usage digital method.

This only affects you, if you use a traditional antenna to get your television.  If you do you use rabbit ears or an antenna on your house, you will need to pick up a DTV converter box (and maybe a new antenna) to continue to get local TV.

If you have cable, satellite, fiber optic or some other way that you get your local stations you are good to go, just don’t let your provider trick you into getting a digital package from them, because of this.

If you are still looking for a converter box, I hear that the one linked below is about the best thing going for the money.
