As the WWDC continues, yeah I know, it’s amazing they all stick around past the Apple keynote ;-), we are learning more and more about the upcomming products.   Most interesting to me is the details about Apple’s new operating system coming this fall, Snow Leopard.

We are learning more about how Apple’s new finely tuned operating system is going to work with the millions of pieces of older equipment that are still in use.

Snow Leopard will NOT support any powerpc processors, which we knew, but still, it’s a shame to see, especially since the Intel processors are only three years old this month.

It looks like all the older multitouch track pads out there will now support the new three and four finger gestures and swipes that the new ones do.  This is cool, but a tad annoying that they didn’t just release this is an update before now.

Additionally a lot of the new features involving OpenCL, the offloading of some tasks to the graphics processor instead of the CPU, will only work the latest NVIDIA Cards, and a couple of ATI card.

- NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GTS, Geforce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130.
- ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870

Noticably missing is support for my older but still fast ATI Radeon X1600 card that is in my Core Duo Mac Book Pro.  :(

I suppose they could include support for even older cards in future updates but…   I wouldn’t bet on that being a high priority.
