When Hulu first appeared on the scene it was something to behold. A place where you could easily watch most of the Television content currently out there (plus a lot of great older stuff) from one easy to navigate interface.
Boxee is a great service that brings internet video to your television screen. One of the feathers in their cap has been the inclusion of Hulu in their service. But recently Hulu has been trying to stop Boxee and others like them from using Hulu content (albeit someone unsuccessfully). Hulu has claimed that it’s the networks that have been asking them to try and block services like Boxee, but now I think it may have been because they were secretly working on their new product, a product that competes pretty directly with Boxee and services like that.
I am talking of course about the launch of Hulu Desktop.
Hulu Desktop is free a down loadable application for Mac or Windows computers. It puts a really great full screen Hulu interface on your computer that you can control with the keyboard and mouse OR a remote control.
If you are using an Apple computer that you have purchased in the last few years you have a little white remote that came with it. The remote has been handy with Apple’s Front Row application for listening to music or watching videos from a distance away rom your PC, but now you can use it with Hulu Desktop too.
Hulu Desktop works great on your computer’s display but obviously what it’s designed for is a computer that is hooked up to a TV or Home Theater system.
I haven’t had a chance to test Hulu Desktop out on my Home Theater yet, but, based on what I am seeing on my 17” Mac Book Pro it should be a no brainier.
What if all your TV watching was on demand?
Grab a free copy of Hulu Desktop and take a look at the future of television. (link in article title)
If I were a cable provider, or even a local TV station I’d be scared shitless right now. This is a game changer.
Time to adapt, or perish.
