Normally, I don’t pay much attention to these rumors. There has been talk of Verizon Wireless getting an iPhone for years, and nothing ever comes of it.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again Apple isn’t going to build a CDMA capable version of the iPhone. Even though CDMA seems to be a superior technology especially here in the states, world wide the tech of choice is GSM. So I don’t think Apple want’s to build another version of the iPhone especially when CDMA is slated to be phased out in just a few years.

Well, because this rumor just got interesting. My verizon business rep who usually is very tight lipped about any sort of rumor, send me this link in an email.
If he is passing on info like this, there may just be some truth in it.
Also we had a rumor a short while back about AT&T working to extend their exclusivity agreement with Apple for another year.
So now, I am thinking there may be some truth in this.
However, I have a theory.
AT&T and Verizon have committed to LTE being their 4th generation wireless standard. LTE service is just now starting to be rolled out and tested, with nation wide service becoming available sometime in 2011.
The discussions between Apple and Verizon Wireless could be legit, but not for a CDMA phone like everyone seems to think. It could be the beginning of talks to bring the iPhone to Verizon’s 4G (LTE) network in a couple years time.
This would allow Apple to have two carriers here in the States just like it does in many other countries.
However, I did say way back in the day that there was no way Apple wanted to be in an already over crowded cell phone market. And I was really painfully wrong about that.
So here is to hoping I can use an Apple iPhone on my beloved Verizon before 2010. :D

Business Week has an interesting spin on the rumor. They are claiming that it’s not the iPhone that Verzon would be getting, that it’s aqctually one or two new iPhone like devices. Perhaps that iPhone tablet I have have been dreaming of for a few years now, and the previously rumored “iPhone Nano.” They also claim that one of the new devices will be available this summer. Hopefully we are talking tablet.
