Picnik an online photo manipulation and editing tool has just been acquired by Google.

You may know Picnic as the online editing tool that comes up when you click “Edit Photo” on flickr. It allows for not only basic manipulations, changing of size, editing text basic red eye removal etc… but some more advanced masking and effects for the artisit types too.

I would expect to see this worked into Googles Picasa offerings shortly, but at least for now, Picnic will continue to be available as a stand alone free product.

It makes sense, but… therefor it probably won’t happen. Unless Apple also stops production of the Apple TV or merges it with the Mac Mini line, which also makes sence, and therefor Steve won’t let it happen. ;-)

Apple plans to introduce HDMI connectivity on some of its personal computers this year, embracing an emerging trend that has seen the high-definition audio/video interface crop up on an increasing number of systems from rival PC manufacturers, AppleInsider has learned.

I’m not saying we should all pirate, but… there is a point to this. Why punish the paying customer? Cause you aren’t punishing the pirate.

Just saying… But I’m not saying….

Not strictly Tech, but I’d so buy one of these, especially if it fit my laptop.

These bags are made out of recycled life jackets. Awesome.

Lets just say I’m not shocked….

Palm, when your product was announced you won best of CES, but delayed launch bad carrier decisions, slow roll out world wide and to other US carriers and very slow app development for your device have kept adoption rates in low gear.

You made this bed, the question is, can you do anything about it? Or will Android continue to eat your lunch.

Under US law, copyright is granted on publication to “original works of authorship” finalized in “fixed forms of expression” but this does not extend to names, titles, or short phrases (PDF).

You cannot copyright a Tweet

Good to know, not that I ever thought of applying copyright to my tweets, but it’s nice to know my “retweets” aren’t going to get me sued either.

It’s an odd world we live in when this stuff needs to be explained.

OK, that’s fucking cool.

I love this. So great.

This seems like a short-circuit waiting to happen.  Hope it comes with a smoke alarm.

Rebbox, the little start up that is making a huge dent in the DVD rental system, is an interesting little beast. It turns out that they don’t buy their DVD’s directly from the studios. No, they will buy up to 40% of their new releases right from big box retailers like Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc.

Apparently the $1 a day rental fee Redbox charges is enough to recoup the cost of just paying retail for the discs fast enough that Redbox owners just buy the discs locally. Also this insures availability of rentals the same day the discs hit the retail stores. Something the Studios have prevented services such as NetFlix from doing in the past.

Well apparently Target and Walmart have had enough of “subsidizing” the profits of the little unmanned rental service. So they are limiting sales of new release DVDs to only five per customer.

This they think will prevent the people who fill up the Redbox kiosks from being able to buy enough new release DVDs to fill their inventory. I think it will just force Redbox owners to shop online thus taking all those dollars out of the local economy.

I don’t know but this just seems like a dumb move to me. It’s not like Redbox rentals and Walmart sales compete with each other. If I were in Target’s position I’d make a deal with Redbox to let them buy their movies there, but then put coupons in with the DVDs Redbox rents. Then if you rent a movie, you decide you want to own it, you have a coupon in your hand for $1 off at Target.

See now, that is what they used to call synergy. What Walmart and Target are doing now is cutting off their hand to spite their face.

Tech Crunch’s title, not mine (click the title to be taken to their article.

But first let me sum up.

Android has had multi touch capabilities built into the hardware and software for a while, but hasn’t made use of it in the basic OS or any of the included google apps. The rumor was there was some sort of handshake agreement between Apple and Google not to have multi touch on Android devices in the States.

But now, with a new update for the Google Nexus 1, and hopefully coming soon to the Moto Droid, Google has updated all their Android apps to make use of multi touch gestures. You know, pinch zoom, flick, that sort of thing.

MG Siegler seems to think it’s because Mommy and Daddy are fighting right now, but one or two disagreements does not a divorce make.

I think it’s just that all the Android developers have started including Multi-Touch in their apps, and so the jig as it were, is up. It’s just time for Google stop pretending the devices don’t have multi-touch.
