“This cost is for people buying brand new hardware with a new contract. Essentially, consumers are paying to for the privilege to get a new phone with two-year commitment.” —

Verizon to charge $30 for the privilege of a new phone upgrade

What?  No wait… most companies simply raise prices of goods or services when they need some more money to operate.  But Verizon can’t do that due to the super competative nature of their business.

The quote from Verizon should be:

“We are going to hide this $30 upgrade fee in the fine print so that when you price shop at the end of your contract we will still look good compared to the other carriers.”

Very lame.  Verizon is my prefered carrier, but this is just more proof that you can’t trust any of them.

“Too bad Kodak couldn’t have seen as far ahead as Eastman once was. Maybe it could’ve come up with the idea of Instagram and today Facebook would be buying it, instead.” —

Does Instagram Owe Kodak a Billion Dollar Thanks?

A nice Op-Ed piece from Mashable.

Facebook to buy Instagram
Darling photo app for Apple iOS devices and recent release to the Google android market as well has just been scouped up by Social giant Facebook for one billion in cash and stock.
I am floored by this deal and most definatly worried for my beloved Instagram.  Past purchases by Team Zuckerberg have been rolled into Facebook’s code never to be seen or heard from again.  Instagram already will let you post tto Facebook but it also lets you selectivly post elsewhere…
Will a facebook owned Instagram force you to post to facebook?
Will a facebook owned Instagram force you to only post to facebook, denying use of Instagram posts by it’s competitors?
Time will tell, but I am suddenly not optimistic.

“The CamOne Infinity is an action cam with a key difference that could help set it apart from the GoPro if it arrives to market: it has interchangeable lenses.” —

CamOne Infinity Is the First Action Cam With Interchangeable Lenses

Interchangeable lenses are interesting in a rugged video cam, but price is what will sell this against the already market established GoPro Cam.

Video on New Apple iPad Eats Up Monthly Data Plans

Well DUH!

Hey Wall Street Journal….  this isn’t news.  Streaming video over your 3G connection to a phone or android tablet would have yielded the same results.

Mr. Wells is either one of the worlds leading Dopes, or this is an attention getting news designed to capatalize on the known issues of 4G Data Rates, Streaming Video and a new Apple product.

Get this crap put of my RSS feeds.

New iPad uses Retina graphics assets for upscaling
This is a nice unexpected side effect of upgrading your ipad.   If you use any iPhone apps on your iPad you are no doubt awair of the nifty little 2x button that makes the app larger but at the same time sacrifices a bit of graphics crispness and clarity.
Well as long as that iPhone app is optimized for an iPhone retina display (iPhone 4 or 4S) the new iPad can take advantage of these graphics.
Now most popular apps have an iPad optimized version already but there are a few gems out there that you may want to run on your iPad, like the amazing Hero Academy game for instance, that suddenly look amazing.
It’s not a deal maker or breaker but sort of an apple upgrade Easter Egg.

HTC Devices to Be Pre-Installed With LogMeIn Rescue for Better Device Support -

Wow this is pretty big news.  Not only for HTC customers but for number two remote access developer LogMeIn.

LogMeIn rescue will allow support techs to gain remote access to your phone (with your permission of course) to help troubleshoot an issue.

So lets say you installed some nifty new Android App but then you phone goes all wonkey and you can’t figure it out.  Call for help, and allow the tech’s access to you phone and they will be able to see exactly whats going on and tell you you should have gotten an iPhone.   ;-)   ok kidding kidding, they will be able to tell you whats’s happening and even fix it for you.

It’s very cool.

On a side note I am a huge fan of LogMeIn’s software. I run it on all my machines and it allows me access to any of them from anywhere including my iPad and my iPhone.  Outstanding rock solid stuff, and this deal is a nice feather in their cap as they continue to go head to head with the gotomy guys.

Nice job guys keep it up.
